Weather and Outdoor Conditions

North Creek This Week, Thru Aug. 22, 2021.  OK we’re saying the BIG Rain is over – at least for awhile.  The results?  Unprecedented Summer Rafting on the Upper Hudson – big water, warm water whitewater – get out there!  However, on the trails both hiking and mt. biking – it is muddy with some long stretches of standing water on a few trails.  This week’s weather looks stellar – with just slight chances for rain.  And a couple of sunny rain-free days will go a long ways toward drying out the trails.  Most all the signature activities and attractions do go rain or shine – do it all – Sky Rides at Gore Mt. (Thu-Sun) | Rafting (Tue-Thu-Sat-Sun), | RevRail (Daily)  Much More Weather Info HERE.

North Creek This Week!

It’s August and it’s vacation time!  There’s plenty to do – rain or shine – and at last report no one has melted due to hiking, boating, rafting, rail biking or more in the rain!  Weather apps are everywhere so it’s quite easy to keep track of and avoid the heaviest rain.  The best radar is on Weather Underground – see a link on our Weather Page.  And as has been the tune this Summer – rain is a GOOD thing for rafting raising the water levels in the Upper Hudson!  And rafting in the rain – well, you’re going to get wet anyway – get out there!  Raft trips are run on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays, and Sundays.  Short trips from North River to North Creek are also run these days at 2-2:30 with tubing, kayaks, and family rafting.  Contact an Outfitter – for information and reservations – Directory Here.
New – Story Walk Event at the TOJ Library – Sat. Aug 21, 2-4PM  Info Here.

So It’s Raining!

RevRail and Gore Mt both are “rain or shine” activities so bring along a rain jacket or an umbrella!  This is just for regular rain, more dangerous thunder and lightening will delay or postpone rail biking trips and Gore’s skyrides.  For some real rainy day activities – visit Tannery Pond Community Center and Widlund Gallery (WED-FRI 10 am – 4pm, SAT 12Noon-4 pm), or visit some of North Creek’s great shops – Hudson River Trading Company, or Barkeater Chocolates.  Also visit our newest Art Studio and Gallery – H’art Gallery right on Main Street – awesome art, and The Depot Museum right next to RevRail, open Thur – Tue, 12 – 4, Closed on Wednesdays.  North Creek Farmer’s Market in Riverfront Park is also Rain or Shine – Thursday 2-6PM.
Further afield – The Adirondack Experience (formerly The Adirondack Museum) is Open every day, 10:00 am – 4:00 pm, July 1 – Oct. 3.  The Museum is located in Blue Mt. Lake – Website Click Here.  Also the Wild Center at Tupper Lake is a great Rain Day Choice (Reservations Required) – it’s a good hour + away.  Wild Center Website Click Here.  One more great venue is the Adirondack Interpretive Center in Newcomb, with awesome exhibits and trails (Wed-Sun 10AM-5PM) – website.
