Thanksgiving is the traditional start of ski season, but for 2019-2020 season, Gore has been open for a couple of weeks and Garnet Hill Lodge has has quite a few open days for cross country skiing already this Fall.  Ski Bowl Nordic is poised to open for a Thanksgiving Cross Country Ski Camp and a full slate of races the following weekend.  More info click a link below…

Tree Lighting, Visit with Santa and Light Up Parade, Fri. Dec 6!

Lights On – Tree Lighting and Candlelight Service –  Friday, December 6, 2019 at 5:30 PM – 6:30 PM  For over 25 years this event has brought the community together to “Kick Off” the holiday & winter season. All businesses are encouraged to decorate with white lights, natural greenery and red bows to create a unified theme. Lights On refers to the Friday Night 5pm hour when everyone turns their lights on to start the season December 6th. The celebration of our winter season begins with celebration. With local pastors & Mrs. Clause. Caroling lead by Katy Cole and the Johnsburg Central School Pop Singers. Elected officials will say a few words of welcome.  Note: The Depot Museum will have the Owens House available as a warming hut should the need arrive.

Friday, December 6, 2019 at 7 PM – 8:30 PM  Bring the children to Tannery Pond following the Tree Lighting to visit with Santa and Mrs. Clause and share your Christmas Wishes.  Area restaurants and local bakers have offered to donate finger foods and sweets for the attendees. If you would like to donate, please contact Jane Peters at Basil and Wicks Restaurant. Santa will have small gifts for each boy and girl attending. This is a great photo-op of your children with the lovable Santa and his dear Mrs. Clause. All are welcome from surrounding communities.

Light Up Parade – Friday, December 6, 2019 at 6:30 PM – 7 PM  North Creek Depot Museum under the direction of Ellen Shaffer to escort carolers and Mrs C from Tree Lighting to Tannery Pond Community Center. Everyone welcome to light up a float and be part of this new caravan. Lets see if we can grow this evening display along Main Street.

 

Lights On Christmas Parade! Sat. Dec 7

Lights On Johnsburg Christmas Parade!   Floats will leave Johnsburg Central School and the North Creek Fire House parking lot at 12 noon, and travel down Main Street ending at the Town of Johnsburg Highway Garage. Parade participants are encouraged to visit the ElderWood Nursing and Rehab Center on Route 28 in costume for the joy of the residents. Parade participants Santa and Mrs. Clause will also visit nursing home residents at the end of the parade. Businesses on Main street offer refreshments to parade participants following the event. Find Christmas tree sales, wine samplings, chocolate offerings, hot mulled cider, cookies for everyone.  We encourage you, your family and friends to join us in this (free Parade) If you or your organization is interested in being part of the community Christmas parade, feel free to simply show up Saturday at 11:30 and we’ll put you in line. North River Methodist Church Christmas Bazaar

The North River Methodist Church will host a Christmas Bazaar! A one stop shop for handmade crafts. Unique, beautiful, one of a kind gifts. Jewelry, Christmas Ornaments, Baked Goods, Knit, Crochet & Sewn Items – Mittens, Slippers, Pillows, Table Runners, Hand Painted Cards, Ornaments, Slates, and Cutting Boards. Proceeds to benefit the North River United Methodist Church.

Holiday Singers at Tannery Pond, Sat, Dec 7 & Sun, Dec 8

December 7, 7:00 pm | December 8, 2:00 pm  North Country Singers, under the direction of Denise Conti, present their annual Holiday Celebration. A festive reception will follow the performance.

Special guests include singer Caroline Williams, opera singer Christine Powers, storyteller Robin Jay, the JCS Pop Singers under the direction of Katy Cole (on Saturday), the JCS Jazz Band under the direction of Max Garrett (on Saturday), the Guiding Steps North Dancers under the direction of Krystal Koopman (on Sunday) and the Newcomb Central School Bell Tree Ensemble (on Sunday).

Monetary donations will be gratefully accepted to benefit the Adirondack Community Outreach Center and the North Country Singers.
