Old Ski Movie Night – Sat, Feb. 9, 7PM

The North Creek Railway Depot Museum will hold its “Old Ski Movie Night III” fundraising event at the Tannery Pond Community Center on February 9, 20019 at 7:00 P.M. Admission will be $5.00.

The films to be shown include several produced in the 1930’s by William Gluesing of General Electric “House of Magic” fame, and other members of the Schenectady Wintersports Club. Bill was one of the early promoters of Gore Mountain skiing. The films were shown as far away as New York City to promote the early Snow Trains and skiing in the North Creek region. Featured this year will be “Campout at the ’32 Olympics,” a video of the Schenectady Wintersports Club. Twenty five club members camped out at Adirondack Loj to see Olympic events, spurring interest in skiing in the Gore Region. The film is historically interesting but also has many humorous highlights. According to event organizer Greg Schaefer, other movie titles this year include “Cloud Trail” and clips from “Ride Up-Slide Down,” and “The First Snow Train.”

There will be a brief introduction by Greg to show how the Gore Region trails developed and where they were located in relation to the current terrain.

All proceeds from this event, including a raffle for ski related items, will help support operating expenses at the Depot Museum. The museum focuses on several aspects of local history including the history of skiing in the Greater Gore Region, the original Thomas Durant “Adirondac” Railroad and its effect on the region, the story of Theodore Roosevelt’s “Midnight Ride to the Presidency”, and D&H Railroad history. Refreshments will be served.

The previous event was a sell out so patrons are encouraged to get tickets ahead of time. Pre-sale tickets are available at Hudson River Trading Company in North Creek. For more information please contact Greg Schaefer at 518-251-5451.
